Scala Dei Massipa 2019

€42,00

The "Scala Dei White" wine was one of the wines we used to make in the past in our winery. Today we are re-releasing it under the name Massipa, with the aim of showing the fresh side of the Priorat white Grenache. After tasting some Bottles of this wine from 1991 and seeing how well it stood the test of time, we decided it was a good idea to offer it again to our customers.

  • Varieties: 70% white grenache, 30% chenin blanc
  • Alcoholic strength: 14% Vol.
  • Total tartaric acidity: 5.6 g / l
  • PH: 3,3
  • Contains sulphites.

The only white wine of the Garnatxes de Scala Dei project comes from a single vineyard, Massipa, located next to the Masdeu vineyard on a red clay soil encrusted with gypsum. The vineyard planted in 1974 is the only one we have with white grapes. A path divides the vineyard in half: on one side is the White Grenache and on the other the Chenin Blanc.

The Grenache Blanc and the Chenin Blanc are harvested at the same time, when the Grenache is ripe. Although the chenin is a few days away from ripening, we do it this way to maintain the acidity of this wine. We press the two varieties together, racking the must into a concrete tank, where it ferments at a controlled temperature.

Once fermentation is complete, the wine is again racked to remove the thicker lees and leave the fine lees. This wine spends the first three months in a concrete tank. This is how it starts its aging. From then on, it is kept in static aging with the fine lees in a foudre of 1,200 litres.
